Die [gedruckten] Judaica-Bestände der Niedersächsischen Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen - ein Überblick

Abstract

As a research library founded only in 1734-37,the Gottingen State and University Library holds a quite remarkable collection of 15,000 volumes of Judaica and Hebraica, with an especially strong section of literature from the 18th century. Since the collection has not been intensively investigated as yet, this article outlines the history of its acquisitions and collection development during the past three centuries and elaborates on the use of the various systematic library catalogues which must be consulted in order to find the Judaica holdings throughout the university collection. Since Judaica has not been treated separately, it can only be construed in this manner. In conclusion, suggestions are made for the creation of a systematic union catalogue of Gottingen Judaica which would provide an important basis for further research of these holdings.
