Good spectral resolution and a minimum of intensity corrections are the main advantages of the TOF texture diffractometer at the reactor IBR-2 at FLNP/JINR (Dubna). Consequently, it is mainly used for texture investigations of geological samples, which are often characterized by complicated spectra. One goal of texture analyses in geosciences is the modeling of the anisotropic physical properties of rocks. The thermal expansion coefficient alpha is highly anisotropic for carbonate minerals. It serves as an example, how texture analyses can be applied to gain information on the thermo-mechanical behaviour of marbles as a reaction on temperature variations. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
