Discriminating between the von Neumann and Luders reduction rule

Abstract

Given an ensemble of systems in an unknown state, as well as an observable (A) over cap and a physical apparatus which performs a measurement of (A) over cap on the ensemble, whose detailed working is unknown ("black box"), we study how one can test whether the Luders or von Neumann reduction rule applies.
